Coates and Hope Awarded 2019 Teammates of the Year

June 5, 2019 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Colorado Mammoth News Release

The Colorado Mammoth team voted defensemen Dan Coates and Robert Hope as the 2019 Teammates of the Year, awarding them both the Jay Jalbert Award.

Coates is now a two-time Jay Jalbert Award winner having been awarded Teammate of the Year in 2016. After sitting out the 2017-18 season due to an ACL injury, the 32-year-old St. Catharines, ON, native returned to the Mammoth defense in December 2018 for his eighth season, taking on the role of team captain for a third season. Coates reached the 100-game milestone against the Calgary Roughnecks on January 6 and hit 50 career assists on February 9 against the Philadelphia Wings.

Hope, an assistant captain in the 2018-19 season, has now won the Jay Jalbert Award for three-straight seasons (2017-19). In his fifth season with the Mammoth, the 27-year-old native of Peterborough, ON, hit a milestone in scooping his 500th loose ball on January 6 against the Calgary Roughnecks, going on to recover a team-leading 138 loose balls.

"Both Dan and Robert exemplify what it means to be a teammate," said Mammoth play-by-play analyst Teddy Jenner. "On and off the floor, they are there for the other members of the Mammoth. A quiet voice, a stern conversation or chop in practice, leaders lead by example and these two continue to be the driving force."
