
Coach Hart Completes Coaching Staff

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats are excited to announce that Head Coach John Hart has finished selecting his coaching staff for the upcoming 2006 indoor football season. It was previously announced that Russ Shearer would serve as the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach for the team. Coach Hart has added three more assistant coaches.
The BlueCats would like to welcome Coach Jeff Long as an assistant coach. Coach Long will be the defensive line coach during his first season with the BlueCats. Coach Long is a 1985 graduate of Norfolk Senior High School in Norfolk, Nebraska and played college football as a defensive tackle for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. During his four years at Nebraska, the Huskers finished the season ranked in the top ten each year and they won the Big 8 championship in 1988. Coach Long went on to serve as an assistant coach at Norfolk Senior High and then as head football coach from 1998-2003 at CAL High School in Latimer, Iowa. Coach Long recently relocated to the Evansville area and is currently serving as Co-Pastor of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and also served as a defensive line coach for the Reitz Panthers football team under Head Coach John Hart. Coach Long and his wife Kris live with their three children, Justin, Matthew, and Tesslyn.
Coach Andy Owen will return for his third year with the Evansville BlueCats. Coach Owen was a 1996 graduate and All-State quarterback at Central High School in Evansville. He finished his high school career as the all-time leading passer in school history. He went on to become a starting quarterback and 4 year letter winner at the University of Indianapolis. Owen was elected team captain as a junior at U of I and finished the 1998 season as the highest rated passer in the MIFC conference history. He quarterbacked the team to schools only win over perennial powerhouse Grand Valley State. Coach Owen has been teaching and coaching at Central High School for the past five years. At Central he serves as the offensive coordinator and he coordinated the state leading passing attack in 2005. He will coach the offensive skill positions for the BlueCats in 2006. Coach Owen and his wife Cortney have a daughter named Annabelle.
Coach Andy Zirkelbach will also return as an assistant coach this season for his third year with the BlueCats. Coach Zirkelbach has been an assistant coach for the BlueCats the past two seasons, coaching defensive backs in 2004 and offensive and defensive linemen in 2005. He has also been an assistant coach at Memorial High School in Evansville the past four seasons. At Memorial, he also serves as the Head Cub Coach, varsity assistant for offense and special teams, and he coordinates the Memorial Feeder League. He will coach the offensive line for the BlueCats in 2006. He is a graduate of Memorial High School and the University of Evansville.
