Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Thursday that they have re-signed 2007 CHL All-Star Chris Korchinski for the 2010-11 season. Korchinski, who played two seasons in Laredo from 2006-2008, spent the last two seasons in the ECHL.
The 24-year-old Korchinski (pronounced core-CHIN-ski) is entering his fifth professional season and has put up 187 points (90-97187) and 235 PIM's in 235 career games. In his two seasons in Laredo Korchinski scored a total of 106 points (47-59106) with a +31 rating in 122 games, and put up 28 points (16-1228) in 31 career CHL playoff games.
Korchinski has notched 20 or more goals and 50 or more points in three of his first four professional seasons.
"We've been trying to get Chris Korchinski back here for a couple of years now and we are extremely pleased that he has re-joined our organization," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "He brings so much to the table. He can score, he can pass, he can hit, he works hard, and he's a leader."
Last season Korchinski, from Rama, Saskatchewan, had 30 points (18-1230) in 46 games for the ECHL's Elmira Jackals. In last seasons playoffs Korchinski had three points (1-23) in five games.
During the 2008-09 campaign the 6'0'', 190 pound Korchinski spent time with the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers before being traded to Elmira after just nine games. That season Korchinski put up 51 points (25-2651) in 64 games combined with the Wranglers and Jackals and played one game with the AHL's Binghamtom Senators. In the 2009 postseason Korchinski had 11 points (5-611) in 11 games for Elmira.
In his two seasons with the Bucks Korchinski earned a reputation for being a clutch performer, notching a total of eight game-winning goals in 122 regular season games, while scoring seven game-winning goals in 31 total playoff games in Laredo.
In 2007-08 Korchinski had 53 points (23-3053), a plus 20 rating and 122 PIM's in 64 regular season games. During the 2008 playoffs Korchinski had 11 points (7-411), including three game-winning goals. Korchinski notched a hat-trick in game six of the conference finals to force a deciding game seven against eventual President's Cup Champion Arizona.
Korchinski attended AHL training camp with the San Antonio Rampage prior to the 2007-08 campaign.
"Chris is a clutch player there's no doubt," Ruskowski said. "Whenever we needed a big play or a big goal we looked to him and we will continue to look to him this season."
Korchinski had a very successful rookie campaign with the Bucks in 2006-07, which included six regular-season game-winning goals. Korchinski added four game-winning goals in the 2007 playoffs, including the 5-4 double-over-time game- winning power-play goal over Corpus Christi, in game one of the Bucks second round playoff series.
In the 2006-07 regular season Korchinski picked up 53 points (24-2953) earning his first CHL All Star nod, and scored 17 points (9-817) in the 2007 playoffs. Korchinski played in two games for the AHL's San Antonio Rampage that season.
Korchinski played four seasons of junior hockey with the SJHL's Yorkton Terriers where put up 169 points (76-93169) in 164 games.
