Des Moines, IA - The Cleveland Gladiators defeated the Iowa Barnstormers 70-56 in front of 8,059 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. With the win, the Gladiators improve to 2-3 while the Barnstormers slip to 2-3. The win also gives the Gladiators a two-game winning streak when the return to Quicken Loans Arena next Saturday night.
John Dutton played his finest game of the season, completing his first 11 pass attempts of the game and finishing 31-of-39 for 355 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions. His 355 passing yards gives him 29,798 yards for his career - needing just 202 yards to become the sixth player in Arena Football League history to throw for over 30,000 yards in a career.
Pacing the Gladiators receiving attack was Chris Johnson, who caught a game-high 13 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown. Ben Nelson, who entered the game with 15 touchdowns added to his season total, accounting for three touchdowns on 12 catches and 138 yards.
For the Barnstormers, Ryan Vena completed 16-of-31 passes for 275 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. As a double threat, Vena rushed 10 times for 44 yards and four touchdowns in the loss.
