San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Arena Football League and the SaberCats announced today that defensive back and Hall of Fame selection Clevan Thomas has earned multiple weekly awards from the AFL for his performance this past Saturday in San Jose's 62-35 win over the San Antonio Talons. Thomas was named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and also made the Cutters Catch of the Week.

Thomas (5-10, 195, Florida State) was everywhere defensively for San Jose in the win over the Talons. He had two interceptions, each of which he returned for touchdowns and also added four tackles in the win on Saturday. Thomas jumped the route on a Rohan Davey pass early in the third quarter and raced down the right sideline for the 28-yard score to cap off a 41-0 run by the SaberCats to push their lead to 41-7. The former Seminole struck again midway through the fourth quarter when he made a diving interception in the end zone, earning the Cutters Catch of the Week. He quickly popped up untouched, and after making a few Talons miss early, he was off to the races for the 53-yard touchdown, putting the exclamation mark on the comfortable playoff clinching win. Thomas is currently tied for the league-lead with 11 interceptions.
