San Diego Riptide News Release
SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Riptide have announced that quarterback Kane Claunch has signed a two-year contract with the expansion Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League. Claunch is the second San Diego Riptide player to be signed by an AFL team this week as Defensive Specialist Kenny Haslip signed with Buffalo on Wednesday.
Claunch tossed 63 touchdowns and 3,297 yards for the Riptide in 2002 en route to being named the team's Offensive Player of the Year. He was named the MVP of three games for the Riptide. He had passer ratings of over 100 in seven games, including an amazing 157.48 performance against Louisville (May 4) when he completed 13-of-17 passes (76.5 completion percentage) for 222 yards and six touchdowns.
"Kane is a big, strong guy who played really well for the Riptide last year," said Crush Head Coach Bob Beers. "He's got a good delivery, great accuracy, and moves in the pocket well. He also has great leadership skills."
Before joining the Riptide, Claunch played three games with the af2's Rochester Brigade in 2001, where he completed 54.3% of his passes for 521 yards with seven TDs and five interceptions. He attended Montana Tech, where he was a three-year starter, posting a 20-12 record and three winning seasons. With the Orediggers, Claunch completed 57% of his passes for 6,208 yards with 45 TDs and a 130.15 passing efficiency.
On August 17th of this year, he married his college sweetheart Naomi Kaio. When not playing Arena Football, Claunch is a field engineer.
2003 Riptide season tickets begin at just $56 for eight exciting high scoring, helmet popping, action packed home games at the Sports Arena. Riptide Ticket Manager Karen April will be in the office on Wednesdays from 10:30am-4:00pm. Give her a call at 858.404.0232 or log onto sandiegoriptide.com.
