Clark's Playmaking Fueling Fever's Record-Setting Offense

The Fever offense is breaking records and turning heads as the WNBA season barrels into its latter half, and Caitlin Clark is at the helm for Indiana. Clark grabbed Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors for the week of July 27 as Indiana's All-Star guard recorded averages of 25.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game in the Fever's trio of road contests last week.

Clark's Player of the Week selection marks the sixth of her career, and she joins Tamika Catchings (22) and Kelsey Mitchell (5) as the only Fever players to earn the honor five or more times.

Indiana went 2-1 in its three games last week, and Clark was instrumental in the Fever's performance in all three. She shot nearly 54 percent from the field, led the team in scoring twice, and recorded her fourth career triple double.

The Fever began their week in Seattle where Clark recorded 32 points, four rebounds, and seven assists on 9-for-14 shooting. The Fever defeated the Storm, 105-95, in Indiana's record fourth consecutive 100-point game.

The Fever traveled to Portland next, and Clark's versatility was on full display in her 26-point triple-double. She grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in her first triple-double of the season, and moved into third place on the WNBA's career triple-doubles list.

Clark now trails only Alyssa Thomas (21) and Jessica Shepard (5) for most career triple-doubles. She is tied with Sabrina Ionescu (4) for third-most, and joins Ionescu as the only two players in WNBA history to record four such performances before their 100th career game. Clark amassed four triple doubles by her 79th game, and Ionescu did it in her 89th.

Friday's contest in Portland marked Clark's eighth game this season collecting five or more rebounds, and second game leading the team in the category.

"The area that she's continuing to get better in for us now is the defensive rebounding," coach Stephanie White said. "She's always scoring and finding her open teammates and being able to facilitate...She has the potential to get that every game."

Clark led Indiana in scoring, rebounding, and assists against the Fire, and the Fever defeated Portland, 112-98.

The Fever's only loss of the week came in Minnesota, where Indiana fell to the Lynx, 108-100, despite a promising fourth quarter rally that fell short. Clark recorded a double-double in that contest as she scored 19 points and recorded 10 assists.

"The best thing I can do for this team is playmake," Clark said early in the Fever's season. "At the end of the day, I can score the ball, I can make threes, but what I can do best for this team is make plays for my teammates.

"...I feel like my speed and my burst is back and that helps me get downhill a little bit better than I was last year, so I take a lot of pride in that. I feel like I'm finishing well around the rim and I'm setting my teammates up for success."

The Fever had good momentum coming into the week, and Clark's play carried that drive through a demanding slate of road games. She'll regroup with the Fever as they prepare to return to Indianapolis on Thursday, August 6, to host the Las Vegas Aces.
