The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders swept their first-round series with the Indiana Ice last night, defeating the Ice 5-4 in overtime. Phil Axtell tallied his second goal of the game at 4:16 of overtime to lift the Riders to victory. Ted Purcell and Raymond Eichenlaub both added a goal and an assist in the win for Cedar Rapids while Dan Tormey stopped 34 of 38 shots in goal for the win. Thomas Klempa recorded a pair of goals for Indiana who finished the season 0-10-1 versus the Riders this season. Cedar Rapids took game one by a score of 7-3 and game two, 6-2.

The RoughRiders will now face the winner of the Waterloo/Chicago series. Game #3 is tonight in Chicago with Waterloo leading the series 2-0. The Black Hawks survived a scare in game two, defeating Chicago 1-0 in overtime last Saturday. Jesse Vessel recorded the game-winner at 10:12 of overtime while Drew O'Connell posted a shutout, stopping all 26 shots faced.

In the West Division...

The Tri-City Storm have put the Omaha Lancers on the brink of elimination, defeating Omaha 3-2 in overtime last night. Tri-City now leads the series 2-1, with game four tonight in Kearney, NE. J.P. Platisha scored just 56 seconds into overtime lift the Storm to victory. Cody Chupp added a goal and an assist in the win while Michael Zacharias stopped 24 of 26 shots in goal to earn the victory. Trevor Smith had a goal and an assist for the Lancers. The road team has won every game of this series so far. If there is a game five it will Friday night in Council Bluffs, IA.

The winner of that series will face the Sioux City Musketeers who defeated the Lincoln Stars in four games. The West Division Finals will begin next Tuesday or Wednesday, depending upon who wins the Tri-City/Omaha series.
