City Stars Travel To Austin To Take On Expansion Austin Aztex
April 24, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Cleveland City Stars News Release
The City Stars play its second straight road match this Saturday at Austin at 8:05 p.m. The City Stars are looking to bounce back after the team dropped the opener 3-1 at Miami FC.
Two new City Stars hooked up for the lone goal as Ricardo Pierre-Louis touched in his first professional goal on a ball played by midfielder Pato Aguilera. Pierre-Louis spent a year with the MLS Columbus Crew after scoring over 100 career goals at Lee University.
Cleveland will benefit by the return of goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap. The veteran keeper has been a member of the City Stars since the inaugural season in 2007 and spent a year in the USL-1 with Miami FC in 2006. Gilstrap spent the off season in the South African Premier League with Maritzburg United and has now been cleared to rejoin the City Stars.
The City Stars will also have defender Austin Washington on loan from the MLS Chicago Fire for the match. The 23-year old Washington was an all-West Coast Conference performer at Gonzaga University before being drafted 54th overall by Chicago in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft.
The Aztex are off to a strong 0-0-2 start with 1-1 draws against the Minnesota Thunder and the defending champion Vancouver Whitecaps. The two draws place the expansion side in fourth place in the early USL-1 standings.
Former English National Team member Gifton Noel-Williams scored on a header in the match with Vancouver and just missed another header in the opener. The Aztex received a goal from defender Lyle Adams in the match with Minnesota off an assist from Brazilian forward Sullivan Silva.
Saturday's match can be viewed live on USLLive.com. The City Stars open the home portion of the schedule next Friday May 1st at 8 p.m. in a Fox Soccer Channel national broadcast against the Rochester Rhinos.
