City Stars To Host Puerto Rico On Sunday During Mascot Night

CLEVELAND, Ohio -The City Stars will rematch the Puerto Rico Islanders this Sunday, July 12th at 5 p.m. with hopes of defeating the squad that they battled on the road in June. The Islanders defeated the City Stars in the first match-up of the season, but the City Stars battled back for a 2-2 tie in the second match.
Halfway through the season, the City Stars are struggling to rise from the bottom of the table with a 2-10-4 record. With last week's defeat to the Austin Aztex, the City Stars remain in 10th place in USL-1 league standings. Despite the efforts of leading goal-scorers Joshua Boateng and Ricardo Pierre-Louis, who scored a brilliant 90th minute goal to tie Austin on June 27th, the offense has been unable to capitalize on many crucial opportunities. The City Stars level of play has been steadily increasing however, and forward Israel Sesay made the USL week 12 Team of the Week. Midfielder Pato Aguilera also remains the league leader in assists.
The Puerto Rico Islanders currently sit in second place in league standings, with an 8-4-5 record. The Islanders have risen steadily through a recent winning streak due much in part to the hard work of leading goal-scorer Christian Arrieta. The defender has scored six goals for the Islanders thus far this season. Forward Nicolas Adderly has also made a large contribution with four goals scored. Recently the Islanders defeated the first-ranked Charleston Battery in two consecutive matches, and also impressively took down the Carolina RailHawks at Carolina.
Sunday's kickoff is 5 p.m. at Middlefield Cheese Stadium with the match airing on SportsTime Ohio and usllive.com. The match will premier on STO Sunday at 10 p.m. and will replay July 13th at 12 p.m. and July 14th at 12 p.m. Sunday will also be Cleveland Mascot Night, with many famous Ohio mascots making appearances.
