City Stars Head To Rochester For Tuesday's U.S. Open Cup Second Round Match

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The City Stars travel to Rochester, NY Tuesday for the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against the Rochester Rhinos. The winner advances to take on the MLS Columbus Crew in the third round on Tuesday June 30th at Crew Stadium in Columbus.

Cleveland defeated the St. Louis Lions of the PDL 3-0 in the first round at Middlefield Cheese Stadium. Ryan Stewart led the way for the City Stars with a goal and two assists. Ricardo Pierre-Louis and Steven Gillespie tallied the other two goals for Cleveland.

Rochester advanced by defeating the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of USL-2. After trailing for much of the match, Rochester sent the match into overtime with a goal in the 90th minute. The teams played two scoreless overtime periods before the Rhinos eventually advanced on penalty kicks.

Tuesday will be the second meeting between Cleveland and Rochester in four days as the City Stars defeated the Rhinos 3-0 in Saturday's league match. Godfrey Tenoff, Julian Valentin and Joshua Boateng all recorded goals for the City Stars. Pato Aguilera added two assists to bring his season total to five and Stewart chipped in the other assist.

It was a reversal of fortune as Rochester defeated Cleveland 3-0 in the first meeting of the season between the two sides on May 1st. Tai Atieno, Johnny Menyongar and Mike Ambersley scored goals for the Rhinos. Menyongar leads the Rhinos and is second in the league with four goals scored on the season.
