Orlando Predators News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. (May 26, 2006) -- When the Orlando Predators (10-6) host the Philadelphia Soul (10-7) in Sunday's Arena Football League quarterfinal game, more will be on the line than just a trip to next week's conference finals.
On Friday, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer wagered a bushel of Central Florida's finest citrus against a dozen Philadelphia Cheese Steaks put up by Philadelphia Mayor John Street that the Predators would be victorious.
"While I'm sure Mayor Street would love to have some of our world-famous Florida citrus, he'll have to check the produce aisle at his local grocery store because the Predators are going to beat the Philadelphia Soul on Sunday," said Mayor Dyer.
"These are the perfect stakes for the game," commented Mayor John Street in accepting the wager. "Now I have two things to look forward to this weekend. A Soul win and Florida Citrus."
The teams met once earlier this season, with the Predators taking a 47-33 decision back on Feb. 11. In that game, the Soul played without starting quarterback Tony Graziani and the game swung to the Predators favor when Philadelphia committed four turnovers.
Since then, Philadelphia has made an impressive late-season run, defeating both top-seeded Dallas and league-power Georgia to make the playoffs as a wild card. The Soul then dismantled Austin in the first round of the playoffs last week. The trip to the quarterfinals was a little bit easier for the Predators, who won the Southern Division and received a first round bye in the playoffs.
Sunday's game between the Predators and Soul is being televised to a national television audience on NBC Sports beginning at 3:30 p.m. For ticket information, call the Predators office at 407-44-PREDS.
