
Cincinnati Kings Split Weekend Road Trip with Loss at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C.--The Cincinnati Kings drop a 2-1 decision Saturday night to the Wilmington Hammerheads, to finish at .500 for their weekend road trip in United Soccer Leagues action. The game was scoreless until the 54th minute of the second half, when James Gledhill scored on a breakaway from midfield. Eight minutes later Wilmington made it 2-0 on a Kevin Nylen goal, with an assist from Paul Case.
The Kings' goal game in extra time off a corner kick header by Derek Smith, with the assist from Abdul Lubega. On Friday night, the Kings pulled off a 1-0 upset at division leading Charlotte on a goal by George Kithas.
"Our total effort and creativity were good enough to win both these weekend games," said Head Coach Jon Pickup. "We just have to turn the page and look for revenge when we return home." The Kings had nine shots on goal to Wilmington's 11, and Cincinnati had five saves to the Hammerheads' four. The Kings' record now stands at 5-5-4, good for fifth in the division. The top four advance to the playoffs.
The Kings return home next weekend to face the division leading Charlotte Eagles, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Xavier University Soccer Complex.
