Cincinnati Kings News Release
CINCINNATI --The Cincinnati Kings turned the Xavier University Soccer Complex into a house of horrors for the New Hampshire Phantoms Saturday night, as the Kings easily defeated the visiting Phantoms, 3-1, in United Soccer Leagues Second Division action.
The Kings scored first, on a penalty kick in the 41st minute by defender Wes Schulte. The Kings held a 1-0 halftime lead until New Hampshire tied it in the 50th minute on a goal by the Phantoms' Bjorn Hansen. The Kings answered in rapid fire fashion with a goal in the 52nd minute by midfielder Kevin McCloskey and in the 56th minute by Travis Sobers with an assist by Tiest Sondaal.
"We dominated 80 per cent of the game," said Head Coach Jon Pickup. "We gave ourselves every chance to win."
The Kings outshot the Phantoms, 19 to nine. The win means the Kings remain undefeated so far this season, with a 3-0-2 record with their next game on the road next weekend at Long Island.
"We've prepared as well as we can to go back on the road," said Pickup. "We're heading for New York undefeated, with confidence in our game. We couldn't ask for a much better start."
The next home game for the Kings will be Saturday, May 28th at 7:30 p.m. at the Xavier University Soccer Complex as the Kings will face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The Kings defeated the Riverhounds at home, 2-1, earlier this month.
