Cincinnati Kings Announce Inaugural Roster

CINCINNATI (February 28, 2005) – The Cincinnati Kings have announced the roster for their inaugural season which begins on April 16 versus the Harrisburg City Islanders. The sixteen man roster will feature six players with local ties to the area and four foreign players.

The Kings compiled their roster after two rounds of tryouts and national recruiting. The Kings held their first round of tryouts on February 4 with over 80 participants competing in the Open Tryouts. Selected players from the Open Tryouts joined players who were invited to the Pro Tryout on February 18. The Pro Tryout featured almost 70 players competing for a spot on the Kings roster.

"We were excited with the caliber of players that came out for tryouts," said Kings Head Coach Jon Pickup. "I'm eager to get these guys on the field together and start working toward a successful first year."

The six local players are: Brian Schaeper (Moeller, Xavier), Matt Gibson (Wright St.), Jack Cummings (Summit Country Day), Wes Schulte (Price Hill), Jeff Hughes (Holmes), and Craig Rhodus (Fairfield). The four foreign players are: Tiest Sondaal (Netherlands), Mesac Celeste (Haiti), Abdul Lubega (Uganda), and Kevin McCloskey (Ireland).

The Cincinnati Kings will be competing in the USL Second Division with a 10 match home schedule beginning April 16. All homes games will be played at the Xavier University Soccer Complex including the April 13 preseason finale against the Columbus Crew of the MLS.
