Christian "T-Bear" Upshaw Ready to Make Halifax Debut

January 4, 2012 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Halifax Rainmen News Release

(Halifax, NS) Halifax's own Christian "T-Bear" Upshaw has been taken off of injured reserve in time to suit up for the Halifax Rainmen during their Thursday night tilt against the Oshawa Power.

Upshaw was signed by the Rainmen in October 2011, and described the event as a "dream come true". However, after only minutes of hitting the court at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario during the Rainmen's first game of the regular season, he suffered a broken elbow that has kept him on the sidelines for the past two months.

Since his injury, Upshaw has been patiently cheering on his teammates in practices and at home games and receiving treatment.

"I haven't been this excited to play basketball since my first game at Saint Patrick's High School," said Upshaw. "They say good things come to those who wait, and waiting is exactly what I've done. I'm so excited to get out there and do my best to help bring a Championship to my home town."

A favourite in the local basketball community, Upshaw spent three years as a standout player for Saint Patrick's High School where he won three provincial championships. He also spent five years on Saint Francis Xavier University's roster where he earned the back-to-back title of Atlantic University Sport MVP in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.

"We've very happy that Christian is healthy again," said Andre Levingston, President & CEO of the Halifax Rainmen. "He has showcased his dedication and passion for our club throughout his injury and we're happy to have him back on the court."

Upshaw and his teammates will tip off against the Oshawa Power on Thursday night at the Metro Centre at 7:00 p.m. For tickets, please visit the Metro Centre Box Office or Ticket Atlantic Locations.
