St. Charles Chill News Release
St. Charles, Mo. - St. Charles general manager and head coach Jamie Rivers has continued to prep his team as they get set for a Friday-Saturday double header in Tulsa as the Chill face the Oilers for the first time in franchise history.
The Oilers (1-5-2) enter their contest tonight against the Wichita Thunder (1-4-3) ranked in ninth place, just behind Wichita in the ten-team league.
Tightening up on the defensive end has been at the top of the list for the former NHL blue-liner, and the work started to show dividends in the 2-1 overtime win last Saturday when the Chill held Wichita to 23 shots on goal in the game. Complicating things on the defensive end is the move of Nielsson Arcibal from the 14-day to the 30-day injured reserve list due to an upper body injury, and the defense got thinner yesterday when Anthony Pisano was granted a leave of absence by the Central Hockey League due to a death in the family.
Rivers has filled the opening with Kevin Noble, the former defensive partner of the Chill's Tony DeHart when the two skated together for Stockton in the ECHL last season.
"We've needed to kind of shore up our defense and Noble's a shut-down guy", said Rivers. "He really moves the puck well and locks down his defensive end."
That move should allow a little more freedom for DeHart to utilize his offensive skills, which will be needed due to the hopefully short-term loss of leading scorer Chad Costello. He was moved to the 7-day injured reserve list as he continues to deal with the aftereffects of a puck hitting him in the face during practice last week.
