San Jose Spiders News Release
SAN JOSE CA, February 13, 2005- Less than 24 hours after the SAN JOSE SPIDERS clawed to their first victory the team dropped a quick game to the first place COLORADO CHILL. The CHILL, who have not lost at home in nearly two seasons, played a nearly flawless first half and rode their play to another win, 89-56.
The SPIDERS were without the services of Erica Glover for most of the night. Although she played sparingly, a touch of the flu kept her from exhibiting the same tenacious approach from the night before.
Amisha Carter brought another solid effort to the court. Gaining her first start of the season and going against US Olympian Ruth Riley Carter held her own, scoring 20 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.
Not much else went right for the SPIDERS. The team's typically strong defense could only muster 3 turnovers against the CHILL. Becky Hammon kept the pace of the game in favor of COLORADO and led her team to what team owner Harry Sinden said was "their best half of basket ball in two years."
A 9-0 run to close the first half ended what had been a hotly contested game between the two teams. The SPIDERS came out with some energy, but a combination of emotional exhaustion coupled with the thin COLORADO air was too much to overcome on back-to-back games and the team could not recover.
Two more stops at LUBBOCK and DALLAS this week before the SPIDERS return home for another match up with the CHILL February 19th, game time 7:00 pm.
