Chill Drop Both Ends of Franchise Opener

April 28, 2008 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Edmonton Chill News Release

The Edmonton Chill showed they will be a game opponent in their first season in the IBL but could not get a win in the two-game weekend series against the Bellingham Slam, dropping a 124-106 decision Sunday night at the Grant MacEwan gym.

One of the big stories on the night though was the officiating with both coaches angrily arguing with the referees on numerous occasions and the Chill finding themselves on the business end of a 30-17 foul disparity, plus two technicals against the home side and a mysterious ejection of team captain, and fan favourite, JR Patrick. Teon Knox led the way for Edmonton, notching 24 points, mostly from deep in the lane where Rashaun Broadus also picked up most of his 22.

For Bellingham the early story was Paul Hafford, who finished with 21 points, but raced out fast with 18 in the first half. Ryan Diggs, who controlled the play from the point on Saturday, looked tired early and sat for most of the second-quarter before returning with 21 after the break as the Slam pulled away in the fourth. The Slam also shot 14-21 in the second half as the Chill flew by the foul limit in both quarters. Bellingham also got contributions from Jacob Stevenson and Lukas Henne who dropped in 21 and 23 points respectively.

The Chill is off until next Saturday May 3rd when they welcome in the Central Oregon Hotshots for a two-game weekend series.
