
Chicago Storm's Armstrong, Charleston Battery advance to semifinals

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Chicago Storm midfielder Stephen Armstrong and the United Soccer Leagues First Division's Charleston Battery maintained their strong run in the 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. On Tuesday, the Battery defeated Major League Soccer's F.C. Dallas, 3-1, in quarterfinal play at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
Armstrong, who recently completed his second season with the Storm, assisted the second goal for the Battery, who advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Open Cup. Charleston takes on the winner of Tuesday's late quarterfinal match between the MLS's Kansas City Wizards and the USL-1's Seattle Sounders. The semifinals take place Tuesday, Aug. 12. Armstrong formerly played for Kansas City.
On Tuesday, Armstrong's Charleston teammate and former Storm defender Lazo Alavanja was responsible for the Battery's first goal in the 28th minute. The match was delayed by lightning, and when play resumed, the Battery added another goal for a 2-0 halftime lead. Charleston and Dallas exchanged goals late in the second half for the 3-1 final.
