Chicago Storm Acquires Seven Players In Dispersal Draft

Chicago, IL (Wednesday, January 5, 2005) – The Chicago Storm selected seven players from the San Diego Sockers in the Major Indoor Soccer League's (MISL) Dispersal Draft on Wednesday afternoon. The "Yellow and Black" acquired the rights to forwards Mark Ughy and Ato Leone, defenders Jacob Ward, Kevin Sakuda and Lee Morrison, midfielders Attilla Vendegh and Paul Wright.

MISL Teams, via a telephone conference, selected players according to their combined winning percentage from the 2003-04 season and the first part of the 2004-05 season, including games played through January 2, 2005. Selection order was based on the lowest winning percentage selecting first and the best winning percentage selecting last. The draft continued for 12 Rounds, until all MISL Teams had passed on their selections in the 13th Round.

The Storm selected the 28-year-old Mark Ughy with the first overall selection in the draft. The Miskolc, Hungary native led the Sockers in scoring with 12 goals and three assists in 10 games. Ughy has registered a point in nine of the 10 games and has scored a goal in eight of 10. The 6'2" 195-pound forward will help add depth and scoring the Storm line-up.

Jacob Ward, 23, was selected with the first selection of the second round (eighth overall). The 6'1" 195-pound defender has appeared in six games, scoring one goal and one assist.

In the third round, the Storm selected Kevin Sakuda with the first selection (15th overall). The 24-year-old Fremont, CA native will rejoin the Storm after being selected by the "Yellow and Black" in the 2004 MISL Expansion Draft. The Storm traded Sakuda back to San Diego prior to the start of the season in exchange for forward Byron Alvarez.

The Storm selected Attila Vendegh with the first selection of the fourth round (22nd overall). The 23-year-old Old Dominion Univserity product ended his career with the Monarchs as the all-time leading scorer in school history with 56 goals and 22 assists in 66 games.

Chicago picked 35-year-old midfielder Paul Wright with the first selection in the fifth round (29th overall). The San Diego, CA native is a veteran of indoor soccer and has scored three goals and eight assists in 10 games in 2004-05. He spent three seasons (1996-98) with the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer, where he and Klopas were teammates.

The Storm rounded out the draft by selecting Ato Leone with the first pick of the sixth round (36th overall) and Lee Morrison with the first selection of the seventh (43rd overall). Leone last played in the MISL with the Sockers during the 2003-04 season. The Argentina native found the net 25 times and assisted on 17 others in 2001 to lead the World Indoor Soccer Leage (WISL) in scoring and earning the MVP honors as a member of the Sacramento Knights.
