Chicago Storm News Release
Chicago, IL (Monday, June 14, 2004) â The Chicago Storm of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) will be accepting season ticket deposits beginning Tuesday, June 15 at 9:00 a.m. CT. Fans can reserve season tickets by calling (312) 226-GOAL (4625). The Storm enters its inaugural season starting this October with home games slated for The Pavilion, located at 1150 West Harrison Avenue in Chicago. The MISL will announce the 2004-05 season schedule late next month.
"We are excited to be able to offer fans in Chicago affordable family entertainment and quality professional soccer," said Chicago Storm President and COO Bob Welch. "We look forward to building on the soccer and sports tradition of the city."
The "Yellow and Black" will be led by Chicago soccer legend Frank Klopas as head coach and general manager. Klopas, 37, will guide the Storm after serving as an assistant coach for the Chicago Fire in 2000, where he also played from 1998 through 1999. The former United States National Team, Chicago Sting and Fire standout, will begin assembling the team with the MISL Expansion Draft on Wednesday, June 23 at 2:00 p.m. CT and will be conducted via telephone conference.
"We are looking forward to beginning the process of putting the Storm together," said Klopas. "The expansion draft will give us a solid base for the team and we are excited about the possibilities of the upcoming season."
The Chicago Storm will receive Designation Lists from each of the nine current MISL operating teams 13 days prior to the scheduled Expansion Draft (June 10). Team lists will designate a maximum of 11 players as "protected" for that team's roster (maximum of one (1) goalkeeper) for the 2004-05 MISL season. The players not designated as protected ("unprotected") are eligible for selection by the Storm, who will draft a maximum of 16 players (two goalkeepers permitted) from MISL rosters.
Players selected in the 2004 Amateur Draft are excluded from the Chicago Expansion Draft. Current MISL teams may lose a maximum of three (3) players during the Expansion Draft. Once a player is selected from an existing team, the team will be allowed to return one (1) unprotected player to its protected Designation List.
Formed on June 3, 2004, the Chicago Storm becomes the 10th team in the MISL, joining the two-time defending champion Baltimore Blast, Cleveland Force, Dallas Sidekicks, Kansas City Comets, Milwaukee Wave, Monterrey Fury (Mexico), Philadelphia Kixx, St. Louis Steamers and San Diego Sockers. Storm home games will be played at The Pavilion in Chicago. The Storm front office is located at 411 South Sangamon, Suite B in Chicago.
