Chicago Soul Weekend Preview
Friday, November 9 vs. Baltimore Blast - 6:35 p.m. (CST)
Saturday, November 10 vs. Rochester Lancers - 6:00 p.m. (CST)
The Chicago Soul (1-1) kicked off their inaugural season last weekend, picking up a 13-8 win in Syracuse and a 23-13 loss in Baltimore. The squad will resume play on the road this weekend as they return to the 1st Mariner Arena on Friday to face the Baltimore Blast (1-0) in a rematch scenario. Kick-off is set for 6:35 p.m. (CST).
The Soul will travel to Rochester on Saturday to take on the Lancers (0-1) for the first time in their second back-to-back road game of the season. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CST) at the Blue Cross Arena.
Hit With Injuries
The injury-plagued Soul will deal with the loss of four key players this weekend. Defender Chris Brisson and midfielder Judson McKinney will be out indefinitely after suffering critical injuries. Brisson sustained a preseason knee injury, while McKinney suffered a broken humerus bone in his left arm after crashing into the boards during last week's game in Baltimore. Both players have scheduled surgeries and will be out for an indefinite period of time.
Forward Chile Farias and midfielder Marco Sullo will miss one week of MISL action as they attempt to recover from injuries sustained from last weekend's play. Farias, who racked up nine points and recorded a first quarter hat trick against the Blast, suffers a knee injury. Meanwhile, Sullo, who took a hard hit to the shoulder during the third quarter in Baltimore, will sit out this weekend in an attempt to recuperate and return the following week.
On the Radar
Bato Radoncic recorded a goal and an assist during both games last weekend, tallying a total of five points. The Soul will turn to the veteran forward again for offensive power and on-field leadership.
Carlos Muñoz, a league newcomer, made a dazzling debut against the Syracuse Silver Knights, scoring two key goals and racking up five points on the night to lead the Soul to their first franchise victory. To cap off his successful debut, the rookie forward was named to the MISL Team of the Week.
The Soul will look forward to defender Tijani Ayegbusi joining the lineup this weekend. Ayegbusi missed out on the action last week due to a hamstring injury. He will make his first game appearance with the Soul on Friday, and give the club the defensive presence it needs to hold off the Blast's powerful offense.
The Blast's Tony Donatelli recorded three first-quarter goals to lead his squad to a 23-13 victory over the Soul on Saturday. Blast forward Machel Millwood added two goals and one assist in the victory as eight different Blast players scored in the game. Baltimore will square off with Chicago for its second straight game.
The Lancers dropped to the Silver Knights 16-10 in their season opener on the road Saturday night. Mauricio Salles led all Rochester scorers with two free kick goals and an assist. Doug Miller, Garret Pettis, and Rey Martinez also contributed to Rochester's 10 points. The Lancers will now prepare to host the Soul for their home opener on Saturday.
