Chicago Slaughter Bolster Roster Heading Into Tonight's Match-Up
April 24, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Chicago Slaughter News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES - The Chicago Slaughter (2-3), the premier indoor football team in the Chicagoland area, bolstered their roster with three veteran players heading into tonight's big matchup with the Kent Predators (3-3) at the Sears Centre Arena.
- Irani DeAraujo (WR), a native of Brazil, was picked up as a free agent out of New York. During his collegiate career, he had 96 receptions for 1007 yards playing for the University of Albany (2004-2007). He signed with the Albany Firebirds (AF2) prior to the 2009 season, but tore his Achilles during pre-season and wasn't able to compete. He has battled back from his injury and is expected to be a fierce offensive weapon for the Slaughter.
- The Slaughter traded Anthony Harris (DL) to Omaha to acquire George Batiste (OL), a Southern Miss University grad who was named to the Lombardi Watch List and Outland Trophy Watch List. He was a 4-year starter at the RG position playing in 49 consecutive games and 4 Bowl Games (Liberty Bowl 2003, New Orleans 2004-2005, GMAC 2006). He was named 2nd Team All Conference USA (2004) and 1st Team All Conference USA (2005-2006). Batiste has played with the River City Rage (IFL) and Omaha Beef (IFL); he has not allowed one sack during his indoor football career.
- "Big Play" Reggie Gray (WR), who was an instrumental part of last year's 2009 Chicago Slaughter Championship Team (CIFL), has been re-signed to the Slaughter. A local fan favorite, Gray attended Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Illinois, where he led his team to the 2001 city championship scoring the game winning touchdown on a 45yd pass in the last 41 seconds of the game. Gray played college ball for the Western Illinois Leathernecks and spent two seasons with the Bloomington Extreme (IFL). In 2008, he was a member of the Chicago Rush and signed with the Slaughter for the 2009 Championship season. Gray is a dangerous weapon both at wide receiver and on special teams.
The Slaughter is coming off of a bye week following back to back wins while the Predators have battled back from a dismal 0-3 start to their season winning their last three consecutive match-ups. Both of these teams will be looking to end the other's winning streak in this weekend's heated contest. Secretary of State Jesse White will be in attendance to participate in the coin toss ceremonies as well as address area high school students as part of the special "Operation Click" half-time event when 6 cars will be given away to select students from participating area high schools.
