Chicago Red Stars Forward Sofia Huerta Voted NWSL Player of the Week

May 19, 2015 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

CHICAGO (May 19, 2015) - Chicago Red Stars forward Sofia Huerta was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 6 of the 2015 NWSL season.

Huerta, 22, recorded her second brace of the 2015 NWSL season on Friday night to help the Red Stars avoid defeat and get a 2-2 draw on the road against the Houston Dash at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The two-time 2015 NWSL Player of the Week cut the Dash's 2-0 lead in the second half when she found the back of the net with a beautiful ball from teammate Jen Hoy.

The pressure continued from the Red Stars as they kept looking for opportunities to come back and even the score. Their efforts paid off as Huerta tallied another goal in the 81st minute, which would allow Chicago to keep their unbeaten record intact.

The NWSL rookie is the fourth Red Stars player to be honored as the NWSL Player of the Week and the first-ever NWSL player to receive the honor back-to-back.

The Chicago Red Stars will return to action Saturday, May 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET against FC Kansas City at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
