Chicago Ready for Big Road Swing

January 11, 2007 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Chicago Hounds News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL. The Chicago Hounds are packing their bags in anticipation of the weekend. In the final three games before the all-star break, Chicago is set to take on the leagues three best teams.

Up first, the Kalamazoo Wings: The Hounds play the Wings twice more this season after Friday's game. Going into battle with the leagues defending champions is never an easy task. Chicago has yet to win a game against the Wings and one loss included a 9-0 rout at the Sears Centre. Hounds forward Paul Caponigri feels his team is more prepared for Friday night, "We have a couple of great practices under our belt and we really believe that we can challenge Kalamazoo, but we know we have to be at our best."

After Kalamazoo, the Hounds will travel to Muskegon to battle the team with the best overall record in the league. However, after playing them fives times this season and losing by one goal in four of those contests, the Hounds are ready for a win. "It's tough to lose by such a close margin four times. After the games, you sit and go through what could have happened, but in the end, a loss is a loss. We have to play mistake-free hockey in order to come up with the win," remarked Hounds defenseman and all-star Chris Busby.

Finally, on Sunday night the Hounds will do battle with their conference rivals-the Fort Wayne Komets. The last time these teams went to war, the Hounds sent Fort Wayne home beating them 5-1. Despite their success over the Komets in the past, the Hounds know that Fort Wayne is atop of the Western Conference for a reason, "They have a lot of great players and several of them are all-stars. If we work hard, I think we can continue our winning ways against them," said Hounds captain Steve Cygan.

Chicago will be back home when they take on the Bloomington Prairie Thunder on January 19th and Saturday the Rockford IceHogs will be at the Sears Centre for "Puck Cancer" night where a portion of proceeds will be donated to the "Puck Cancer" charity.
