Chicago Fire Youth Academy Announces Open Tryouts

CHICAGO, IL (May 27, 2011) - The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Friday that the first-ever tryouts for the club's newly launched Youth Academy will be held Saturday, June 4 at the TOYOTA PARK Turf Field starting at 9 a.m. CT.

An extension of the existing Developmental Academy program, the Chicago Fire Youth Academy will field six boys teams from U13-U18 age levels, beginning play in Fall 2011. These teams will be a part of U.S. Club Soccer's National Premier League, play in events for MLS youth programs and compete at the Disney Showcase, Dallas Cup as well as other premier tournaments.

"When athletes are in a situation where all the training elements come together, players make incredible strides," said Chicago Fire Academy Director and first team assistant coach Larry Sunderland. "With this addition to our club, we are committed to developing all boys accepted into the program with a focus on these essentials.

The unique program provides the best soccer facilities, coaching, programming and environment available in the Chicagoland area. Additionally, all players will be a member of the Chicago Fire Soccer community and benefit from synergies with the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy teams, the club's Reserve squad and First Team.

The tryout schedule for Saturday, June 4 at the TOYOTA PARK Turf Field is as follows: U13/U14's (9-10:30 a.m.), U15/U16's (11a.m.-12:30p.m.) and U17/U18's (1-2:30p.m.).

NOTE: The Youth Academy will follow a January 1 through December 31 birth year calendar.

* U17/U18 For those born in 1993/1994
