Chicago Fire FC News Release

CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC will play its final two games of the 2020 regular season this week, as the team continues its push for a berth in the 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs. On Wednesday, the Fire will play its third straight match on the road, traveling to face Minnesota United FC at Allianz Field at 7:00 p.m. CT (WGN-TV, ESPN+, TUDN 1200AM). The pregame show, presented by CIBC, will begin at 6:45 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

Following the midweek contest, Chicago will return to Soldier Field on Sunday to close out their regular season against New York City FC on MLS Decision Day 2020, presented by AT&T. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on WGN-TV, ESPN+ and transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200AM. On Decision Day - the final matchday of the regular season - all 14 Eastern Conference teams will be in action simultaneously beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT, with the 12 Western Conference teams kicking off in six matches beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT.

Entering the final week of the regular season, the Fire currently sit in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, occupying the final playoff position with several matches to be played today. The team recently earned a point in a 1-1 draw on the road against Nashville SC on Saturday, receiving the game-tying goal in the 42nd minute from defender Boris Sekulić. With the draw, the Fire is unbeaten in seven of its last nine games since Sept. 23.

Wednesday's match marks the first meeting between Chicago and Minnesota this season. The two teams were previously scheduled to face each other on Oct. 14 but the match was postponed due to a suspected case of COVID-19 among the Minnesota United team delegation.

Overall, the Fire have produced a 1-2-0 all-time regular season record against Minnesota. In the only meeting between the two teams last season, Chicago secured a 2-0 victory at SeatGeek Stadium on May 11, 2019. Sitting in fourth place in the West, Minnesota (8-5-6, 30 points) is unbeaten in its last six league games. Midfielder Kevin Molino leads the team in scoring with seven goals in 2020.

Sunday's Decision Day matchup against New York City FC will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. Since 2015, the Fire have produced a 2-5-4 all-time regular season record against NYCFC, including a 2-1-2 record at home. NYCFC (10-8-3, 33 points) enter the match in fifth place in the East, having already clinched a playoff spot. Prior to facing the Fire, NYCFC will host the New York Red Bulls in the Hudson River Derby at Yankee Stadium at 6:00 p.m. CT today. Three different players lead the Club in scoring with four goals apiece.
