Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO (Feb. 23, 2020) - Chicago Fire FC is set to kick off its 2020 MLS regular season campaign on the road against defending MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, March 1. Scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. CT, the Fire's season opener will be broadcast nationally on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.
Sunday's match against Seattle will be the first under Head Coach Raphael Wicky, who leads a new-look Fire team with several new faces on the field and the sidelines. The game against Seattle will mark the first of three consecutive away matches for the Fire, who will face the New England Revolution (March 7) and Orlando City SC (March 14) before hosting Atlanta United FC in its Homecoming match at Soldier Field on March 21.
Entering Sunday's game, the Fire holds an even 2-2-1 record in its last five encounters against Seattle. The last meeting between the two teams at CenturyLink Field occurred on June 23, 2018, with both teams earning a point in a tightly contested 1-1 draw. Sunday's match will be the only time the two teams face off in the 2020 MLS regular season.
Seattle heads into the contest fresh off participation in the Concacaf Champions League, in which it drew 2-2 with Honduran powerhouse Olimpia at the Estadio OlÃÂmpico Metropolitano in the first leg of the series on Thursday, Feb. 20. The teams will face off again on Thursday, Feb. 27, at CenturyLink Field, just three days prior to Sounders FC's match against the Fire.
