Chesapeake Bayhawks News Release

The Chesapeake Bayhawks will help make history when they open the 2016 Major League Lacrosse season against the Atlanta Blaze. It will be the inaugural game for the expansion franchise and will be held on Saturday, April 23 (5 p.m.) at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University.

The Blaze, led by head coach and general manager John Tucker, will feature three former Bayhawks after selecting midfielder Henry Schoonmaker along with defensemen C.J. Costabile and Chris Hipps in last week's MLL Expansion Draft.

This shapes up as a big season for the Bayhawks, who will be under the direction of a new head coach in Brian Reese and are pointing toward a return to the playoffs.

Chesapeake will make its home debut on Friday, April 29 (7:30 p.m.) when the Florida Launch visit Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Bayhawks won both meetings last season, beating the Launch 12-8 in Annapolis and 15-11 in Boca Raton.

Fans should mark their calendars for the July 4th celebration contest when Chesapeake hosts the defending champion New York Lizards. A spectacular post-game fireworks display along with other fun promotions attracted the largest attendance of the 2015 season with a crowd in excess of 11,000 cramming into Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
