Fredericksburg, MD) - Charlotte's Kelly Schmedes scored two goals in a cold and soggy game two of the season, leading the Lady Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the Fredericksburg Lady Gunners. The match was the Lady Gunner's inaugural game, as a newcomer to the W-League.

The Charlotte Lady Eagles took an early lead in the game, when Lady Eagles' forward Kelly Schmedes scored the opening goal in the 7th minute. The goal was set up by veteran forward Christy Rife, who slid a pass through the Fredericksburg defense, and onto the run of Schmedes. Kelly rushed toward goal and maneuvered around the Lady Gunner's goalkeeper for the goal.

Charlotte controlled much of the match, and Fredericksburg looked to capitalize on counter-attacks and set pieces, but conditions in the soggy weather made control and finishing difficult. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Charlotte until the 70th minute when Fredericksburg pulled even. Kedal Bartholemew recovered a loose ball in the penalty box, following a corner kick which Charlotte had trouble clearing.

The Lady Eagles took back the lead just two minutes later. Trinidad national Darcel Mollon sped down the sideline and around the Lady Gunner's right back. Mollon worked her way into the 18 yard box and served a ball across for Schmedes. Schmedes put it away off the volley to score her second of the match and third in just two games this season.

Following tonight's 2-1 victory, the Lady Eagles headed on to Richmond, VA. The Lady Eagles and the Eagles pro team are both in Richmond for matches tomorrow night. The Lady Eagles will face the Richmond Kickers Destiny at 4:30pm followed by the Eagles match against the Richmond Kickers at 7:00pm.
