Charlotte Sting Set Roster For September 1st
August 31, 2004 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Charlotte Sting News Release
The Charlotte Sting set their roster at 11 active and two injured reserve players, it was announced today by Sting General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey. Each WNBA team was required to submit their roster before resuming play on Wednesday, September 1. The WNBA took a month-long hiatus due to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Third-round draft pick Jia Perkins (groin strain) and rookie free agent Tera Bjorklund (right ankle sprain), were both placed on the injured list and must miss a minimum of three games. The Sting roster now consists of 13 players overall after the signing of Perkins and second-year forward Teana Miller earlier this month.
Bolstered by the return of point guard Dawn Staley, the Sting will play nine games over a 19-day span in September and make a final push for the playoffs. Charlotte has advanced to the WNBA Playoffs in six of seven seasons. Currently, the Sting sit in a three-way tie for second place in the competitive Eastern Conference, where just two games separate the first and last place teams.
