Philadelphia Charge News Release

The Philadelphia Charge take the field again this Sunday, July 14 at 4 p.m. (ET) when they travel to Washington to face the Freedom at RFK Stadium. The Charge (9-1-3, 30pts) enter this weekend's action in a tie for first place with the Carolina Courage (9-2-3, 30pts). Philadelphia has won two straight and is 5-0-3 in its last eight games.

This will be the final of three regular season meetings between the Charge and Freedom. Philadelphia won the first encounter, 3-1, back on May 11 and then escaped with a 1-1 tie on June 8. Both games were at Villanova Stadium. On Sunday, the Charge will be facing Mia Hamm for the first time this season. The US National Team star had missed the prior two contests with a leg injury.

The Freedom has won two in a row and has vaulted up the league standings and into third place with its excellent play of late. Since Hamm's return, she has been a force, registering four goals and an assist for nine points in just five games despite having yet to start a contest.

Marinette Pichon is leading the Charge. The Frenchwoman has tallied a league-leading 12 goals and also leads the WUSA with 25 points. She registered a hat trick last time out and has scored five goals in her last two games. The forward has also scored 11 of the last 14 goals recorded by a Charge player.

Philadelphia returns to the friendly confines of Villanova Stadium on Saturday, July 20 when the Charge host the Carolina Courage starting at 4 p.m. and host Women in Sports Night. For ticket information call 215-467-GOAL.
