New Jersey Jackals News Release

The New Jersey Jackals continued to hit tough luck, this time north of the border in Ottawa, Ontario, dropping the first game of the series 3-2 to the Ottawa Champions at RCGT Park on Tuesday night.

Jackals starting pitcher Dylan Brammer suffered a difficult defeat despite a quality outing, completing all eight innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out eight and walking one batter.

Ottawa left fielder Michael Hungate hit his third home run of the season in the fifth inning to break the scoreless tie.

It was a solo shot for Hungate to give the Champs a 1-0 lead.

Brian Portelli delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth for Ottawa to make it a 2-0 ball game.

The Jackals tried to slice back into the Champions lead in the top of the seventh.

Catcher Kevin Torres drove in his 21st and 22nd runs of the year with a two run single to score right fielder Jordan Hinshaw and designated hitter John Ruettiger.

New Jersey failed to piece together the tying run; dropping their record to 30-37.

Champions hurler Austin Chrismon notched his sixth win of the year, completing six and two thirds innings allowing only two earned on six hits.

With the loss, the Jackals have only scored two runs in the last three games played.

Game two of the series is slated for Wednesday, August 1 at 7:05 P.M. at RCGT Park.
