USSSA Pride News Release

Maumee, OH - After seeing 21 combined innings of ball the last time the Pride and Pennsylvania Rebellion faced off in York and Lancaster, PA, it made sense that fans would wonder whether or not this second series would play out in the same fashion.

The hot bats of Lauren Chamberlain and Megan Wiggins behind the arm of Chelsea Thomas would assure us that this time, game-one wasn't going to extras.

Thomas (3-1) earned the win for the Pride, allowing only 2 hits and fanning 9 batters in 6 shutout innings. Dallas Escobedo (1-4) would be charged with the loss for the Rebellion.

The Pride threatened early loading the bases in the first and pushing runners into scoring position in the second, but Thomas, who retired four consecutive Rebellion batters herself, and Dallas Escobedo would duel to keep the game scoreless through the top of the third inning.

A solo homerun off the bat of Megan Wiggins (2-4, 1 RBI) followed by an RBI double by Chelsea Goodacre (2-3, 1 RBI) unraveled the scoring for the Pride in the bottom half of the third. Lauren Chamberlain (1-3, 2 RBI) added a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth to increase the lead to 4-0.

Jordan Taylor earned her 5th save of the season after throwing one inning of relief in the 7th. She retired the side in order, rendering the Rebellion bats powerless and solidifying a Pride victory. The Pride improved to 11-6 on the season while the Rebellion dropped to 5-15.

Chelsea Thomas' 9 strikeouts in 6 shutout innings awarded her the Boombah Player of the Game.

The Pride and Rebellion will play the final game of the series tonight, July 4th. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST at the Lucas County Recreation Center in Maumee, OH. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Additionally, fans can listen along to the radio broadcast at msasports.net/broadcasts and follow along via Twitter @USSSAPride.
