CFLPA announces 2006 All-Star team presented by Intergold
Published on February 13, 2007 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
Montreal (CFLPA) The Canadian Football League Players Association today announced their 2006 All-Star team presented by Intergold. The All-Star team is selected by the players and the coaches of the Canadian Football League. Players of each of the eight member clubs are asked to vote on players for who they play against, for example defensive linemen are selecting the top offensive lineman and so on and on.
Not surprisingly, the 2006 Grey Cup Champion B.C. Lions led all teams with six players. The Lions dynamic duo of slot back Geroy Simon the CFL's Most Outstanding Player and defensive lineman Brent Johnson the league's top Canadian and Most Outstanding Defensive Player are joined by defensive lineman Tyrone Williams, linebacker Otis Floyd Jr., defensive back Korey Banks and safety Barron Miles round out the Lions' presence on defense. The CFL's second winningest head coach in history Wally Buono joins his six Lions with his first ever selection to the CFLPA All-Star team presented by Intergold.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders and Calgary Stampeders both have 5 selections, 'Rider cornerback Omarr Morgan was picked for his 6th consecutive selection, while Stampeder quarterback Henry Burris was named the league's top pivot for the first time in his career.
Stampeder super sophomore Sandro DeAngelis was selected for two positions, place kicker and special teams.
Future Hall of Famer Milt Stegall of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers showed no signs of slowing down in 2006; the Turtle Man once again led the Bombers in receiving with 79 catches for 1,269 yards and 7 touchdowns despite missing 4 games due to injury. His 1,269 receiving yards was 4th best in the CFL while his 79 receptions were good for 3rd best overall in the league. As well in 2006 Stegall produced one of the most electrifying plays in not only Bomber history but in CFL history on July 20th at Commonwealth Stadium when he combined with pivot Kevin Glenn for a 100 yard catch and run to produce a last second game winning touchdown against the Eskimos.
His 2006 selection to the CFLPA All-Star team presented by Intergold is his 7th selection the most on the team.
Below are the final results of the 2006 CFLPA All-Star team presented by Intergold.
