
CFL Director of Officiating Neil Payne Retires

Toronto, Ontario â The Canadian Football League announced today that Neil Payne, the League's Director of Officiating has retired. Mr. Payne started with the League in 1969 as an official and was appointed the CFL's Assistant Director of Officiating in 1985. He returned to the field as an active Referee in 1994 and 1995. Mr. Payne was named the CFL's Director of Officiating in March 2000, a role he has filled to date. In his career, Mr. Payne worked over 200 regular season and playoff games for the CFL and appeared in four Grey Cup games.
Although he has now officially joined the ranks of the retired, Mr. Payne will continue his relationship with the Canadian Football League in a consulting capacity. He was born in, and continues to reside in Winnipeg.
