CFL announces 2006 game schedule

Toronto, Ontario - (January 27, 2006) - The Canadian Football League announced today its 2006 game schedule, which kicks off in Montreal on June 16th with a Grey Cup rematch between the Edmonton Eskimos and the Montreal Alouettes.

The CFL's preseason begins May 28th in Winnipeg, and sees the return of the second edition of its Touchdown Atlantic exhibition game in Halifax, Nova Scotia with the Montreal Alouettes facing off against the Ottawa Renegades at St. Mary's Huskies Stadium on June 3rd.

Regular season action gets underway with head coaching debuts for Winnipeg's Doug Berry on Saturday June 24th and Ottawa's John Jenkins on Saturday June 17. In Week 4 Hamilton's Jason Maas returns to Commonwealth Stadium on Friday, July 7 to battle his former team, the Edmonton Eskimos. And should the football stars be aligned, two major records could fall in the during the first half of the regular season as Toronto's Damon Allen targets the pro-football career passing yards record and Winnipeg's Milt Stegall looks to break the CFL's all-time touchdown mark.

The 2006 season will see the traditions continue with its specialty weekend games and excitement of post-season gridiron play heightened with the Scotiabank East and West Semifinal and Championship games in early November. The 94th Grey Cup championship game will take place on November 19th in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Labour Day Classic: Labour Day Weekend isn't complete without fast-paced, hard-hitting CFL football action. Old rivalries are renewed with the Renegades and Montreal going head-to-head, the Blue Bombers visiting Saskatchewan, the Battle of Alberta and the Golden Horseshoe Showdown. The action continues the week following Labour Day with Classic rematches between Calgary/Edmonton, Hamilton/Toronto and Saskatchewan/Winnipeg.
