CFL and RONA announce national landmark partnership

Published on March 11, 2005 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release

MONTREAL, QC – The Canadian Football League (CFL) and RONA Inc. ("RONA") (TSX: RON) announced today the highlights of a new national partnership which establishes significant presence for RONA, the CFL's "Official Home Improvement Retailer", across all nine Clubs during the pre-season and regular season. In a two-year, multi-million dollar agreement, RONA and the CFL will leverage their all-Canadian brands through an innovative partnership in-stadium, at retail and through broadcast on TSN, RDS and CBC.

RONA and the CFL have been promotional partners since 2001, both organizations experiencing exceptional growth since that time. New to the partnership this year, all CFL players from the nine member Clubs will proudly wear a RONA jersey patch during each and every CFL game in the pre-season and regular season. RONA also continues its sponsorship with the CFL during the post-season, including Division Championships and Grey Cup, this year to be held in Vancouver, BC on November 27th.

"We are extremely pleased to be building on our already successful relationship with RONA, with this new partnership showcasing our involvement at both the regional and national levels," said CFL Commissioner Tom Wright. "With a clear understanding of its customers, a long-term commitment to the integrity of its product and a strong focus on growth across the country, there is no question the fit between RONA and the CFL is a natural one."

"This relationship is going to be a success all the way down the line, both for the visibility it gives RONA and for the pride the partnership brings out in our 21,000 employees across the country. For RONA, it is really a winning investment," explained RONA president and CEO Robert Dutton. "That's why we're so pleased to be signing a new two-year agreement with the League. Part of our agreement is to hold a ‘RONA Day' in all nine league stadiums. Now there's an event that is sure to impress Canadian football fans!"

Through the national partnership RONA gains usage rights to the CFL and Grey Cup logos and the collective use of the names and logos of each of the CFL member Clubs. The partnership also sees in-stadium presence during the post-season including on-helmet RONA branding, on-field exposure, and a variety of promotional tools and in-stadium hospitality elements.
