Central Valley Coyotes News Release

CATCHING ON QUICKLY: Rookie wide receiver/defensive back LaMonte Jones has adapted to the arenafootball2 game very quickly since training camp. In eleven games he has tallied 604 yards on 51 receptions to go along with 11 touchdowns. He has scored six touchdowns in his last five games adding another offensive threat to the Coyotes offense. Jones has learned the arena game at a quick pace studying under current offensive specialist Kenyatte Morgan.

DYNAMIC DUO: Offensive specialist Kenyatte Morgan and wide receiver/linebacker LaMonte Jones are the tow hottest players on the Coyotes team. The two have combined for 75% of the Coyotes total offense with 1,646 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns. Each one brings a different style of play to the wide receiver position and they can both find the endzone. The two have been one of the best tandems in the af2 this season.

A LITTLE HELP FROM THE NFL AND AFL: The Central Valley Coyotes recently got some help from the NFL and AFL. Offensive/defensive lineman and former pro bowl selection Al Noga joined the team last week and is looking to add depth to a struggling line. Former Oakland Raider and USC standout Jabari Jackson was assigned to the franchise two weeks ago and appeared in his first career af2 contest last weekend. Jackson will replace fullback/linebacker Marshall Blount who was released from the team due to personal reasons. Quarterback Juston Wood rounds out the newly acquired talent. Wood was on the practice squad for the Los Angeles Avengers of the AFL for most of the 2004 season. He will compete for the starting position this weekend at Oklahoma City.

BEST IN THE WEST: Despite the record of the Central Valley Coyotes, the defense has turned up their play a few notches in recent weeks. They currently have the best pass defense in the West division allowing their opponents only 230 yards through the air. In the division Central Valley faces quarterbacks like San Diego’s Kane Claunch (2,918-yards), Bakersfield’s Chad Elliott (2,989-yards) and Hawaii’s Darnell Arceneaux (2,764).

KENYATTE’S COUNTDOWN TO 3,472: Offensive specialist Kenyatte Morgan continues his run at the af2 all-purpose yards record. He tallied 155 all-purpose yards last weekend against Bakersfield to push his total on the season to 2,439. Morgan has to gain 1,034 yards if he wishes to surpass current record holder Ira Gooch. In order to accomplish this task, Morgan must gain at least 206 yards in the Coyotes next five games. Morgan has already set a new franchise record in all-purpose yards. The previous record was held by Steve Wofford who tallied 2,212 in 14 games in 2002.

THE SPENCER FILE: Coyotes defensive specialist VonKeith Spencer has been an emotional leader for the defensive unit this season. Spencer has tallied 42.5 tackles (33-solo), leads the team in interceptions (6) and pass deflections (13). He is currently tied for 2nd in the af2 in interceptions. Spencer also spends once a week with centralvalleycoyotes.com to talk about the 2004 season.
