Kansas City Comets News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Kansas City Comets (8-1) continue their three-game homestand Saturday night when they welcome the Dallas Sidekicks (5-6) to Cable Dahmer Arena. This is the third of six meetings between the teams and the Comets hold a 2-0 season-series lead with 6-4 and 9-3 wins in Texas. Kansas City is currently in first place in the MASL Central Division with a nine-point lead over St. Louis and Dallas.
The Comets will go for their third win in a row following a home-and-home series sweep of the Tacoma Stars, while the Sidekicks will look to snap a two-game skid. Kansas City remains the only team to be undefeated at home with their 3-0 record at Cable Dahmer Arena and T-Mobile Center combined.
Leading the charge for the Comets will be player-head coach Leo Gibson, who leads the MASL in scoring with 25 points (16G-9A). While Gibson leads the team in goals, points, and blocks, John Sosa, who is second on the team in scoring with 18 points, leads the team in assists with 11. Lucas Sousa (10G-1A) and Rian Marques (8G-3A) round out Kansas City's top scorers.
Between the pipes Nicolau Neto continues to lead the MASL with his 8-1 record. His 4.57 goals-against-average and .737 save percentage place him near the top in those categories as well. The Sidekicks have had three different keepers start this season though the number one spot goes to Juan Gamboa, who is 5-4 with a 5.91 GAA and .711 sv%.
Offensively, it's Luiz Morales who has emerged as the top scoring threat for the Sidekicks. His 20 points (14G-6A) lead the way with Jamie Lovegrove (9G-5A) being the only other Dallas squad member with double-digit production. After Morales and Lovegrove, Felipe Silva, Oscar Romero, and Julio Varela are a good distance back with six points each.
After this meeting, the teams will not face each other again until Dallas returns to Cable Dahmer Arena on Friday, March 4.
