Heat on fire, winning streak reaches seven with 8-4 win over Monarchs

After starting the season with only one victory in their first seven games, the Kelowna Heat reached the .500 mark for the first time this season Wednesday with an 8-4 victory over the visiting London Monarchs.

Heat starter Leiby Guzman (2-0) threw eight innings, giving up eight hits and four runs (three earned), while striking out eight and walking one to earn the win.

The Heat were led at the plate by shortstop Josh Ridgway, who continues to swing a hot bat. Going into tonight's game the Vanocuver-native was hitting .429 in his last five games. Ridgway raised his season average to 323 with a 3-for-4 performance, including two doubles, two runs scored, and his team leading ninth stolen base (fourth best in the CBL).

Luis Iglesis (2-for-3, two runs scored, two RBI) hit his fourth home run of the year in the third inning for Kelowna, which won for the seventh straight time.

Brampton's Gamin Teague ripped a two-run home run for London in a losing cause.

Monarchs starter Ramon Royce (0-4) took the loss, working 4 2/3 innings, allowing only three hits, but six runs (three earned), while striking out six and walking three.
