
CBL Names Players of the Month

Vancouver, B.C. â July 3, 2003 - The Canadian Baseball League is pleased to announce Players of the Month for June, 2003.
Rogelio Arias, Niagara Stars â Player-of-the-Month (JUNE)
WELLAND - The Niagara Stars catcher had a month to remember in June. In 15 June games, the 27-year old Dominican was red hot with a .439 average. In 66 at-bats Arias collected 29 hits, including five doubles, three home runs and 17 RBI. His on-base percentage was .471 and his slugging percentage .652.
Heading into this weekend's action, Arias is hitting .402 to lead the league, six percentage points ahead of Saskatoon's Ben Van Iderstine.
Jesus Matos, Calgary Outlaws â Pitcher-of-the-Month (JUNE)
CALGARY â Jesus Matos is the CBL's first repeat winner of Player-of-the-Month honours. After being named May's Pitcher-of-the-Month, the Calgary Outlaws ace continued his torrid start to the season in June with some near-perfect numbers.
Matos was 3-0 (all complete game wins) in four starts, with a 2.31 ERA. He threw 35 innings in June, struck out 38 hitters while walking only two.
So far this year Matos has been nothing less than incredible. He is 4-0, with a 2.17 ERA, and in 50 innings pitched he has struck out 51 batters while only walking four.
Sean Murphy, Saskatoon Legends â Canadian Player-of-the-Month (JUNE)
SASKATOON â Victoria, BC's Sean Murphy was a catalyst at the plate for the front-running Saskatoon Legends. In 15 June games Murphy was 18-for-51, good for a .353 clip, while scoring 16 runs, and driving in nine more. Murphy registered a .510 slugging percentage (with one triple and two home runs) and a .450 on-base percentage.
Murphy is now among the CBL's top ten with a .345 batting average.
Danny Prata, Trois-Rivieres Saints â Canadian Pitcher-of-the-Month (JUNE)
TROIS-RIVIERES â Saints pitcher Danny Prata, a native of Repentigny, Quebec, is this month's Canadian Pitcher-of-the-Month. Prata was 2-0 in June, winning both of his starts, with a 1.59 ERA over 17 innings pitched. Prata struck out 11 and walked four over the month, and is now heading to Windsor, Ontario for a weekend of play with the Canadian National Team in an important World Cup Qualifying series against Puerto Rico.
