Cavs Force Monday Showdown
April 17, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release
They started poorly. They finished poorly. But for the 40 or so minutes in between, the Rochester RazorSharks outplayed the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavlary. The Cavs forced a decisive game three in the Premier Basketball League championship series with a hard fought 96-89 win. That game will be played at the Great Plains Coliseum Monday night.
Rochester began the game jittery, committing six quick turnovers that led to a 14-4 Lawton lead. The Sharks spent the rest of the night playing from behind. The defending PBL champion Cavs led by five at the quarter and five at the half.
Lawton moved out to a 12 point lead in the third quarter after a couple of baskets by Elvin Mims, who scored 14. It was 68-56 Cavalry. Again the Sharks rallied and when Melvin Council hit a late basket, Lawton's margin was down to three after three, 77-74.
After trailing in the final quarter by as many as seven, Rochester finally pulled even on a pair of Jared Carter free throws at 85-85 with 4:54 left. And again on a couple of Jerice Crouch free throws at 89-89 with 3:21 left. Those were the last points scored by the RazorSharks.
They went the final 3:21 without a point; the final 5:18 without scoring a basket. Lawton got the last seven points of the contest, five of those by Gabe Freeman, to wrap it up.
Freeman had the big game scoring 15 points with 15 rebounds. DeAnthony Bowden was high man with 18.
For Rochester, Eric Walton's 18 points were high. Jared Carter rebounded 10. As has been the case throughout the postseason, the Sharks dominated at the free throw line making 24 more than the Cavs. But making just 3 of their final 16 shots did them in.
