Topeka Pilots News Release

Unlike their first trip to Fairbanks earlier this season, the Lone Star Cavalry played a solid weekend of hockey and walked away from Alaska with three out of a possible four points and edged them closer to second-place Fairbanks.

On Friday night, the Cavalry took Fairbanks to a shootout before dropping a 3-2 decision.

Kirk Golden got the Cavalry on the board first with his goal at 4:45 of the first period from Cody Chupp and Bryan Plaszcz.

After Fairbanks knotted the score at one, Cody Chupp put the Cavalry ahead with his marker at the 17:36 mark of the first period from Golden and Nick Miller.

Fairbanks would eventually tie the score to send the game into overtime and then into the shootout where Brad MacMillan beat Ryan Hatch for the win.

Brent Solei got the win in goal for the Ice Dogs, while Ryan Hatch took the loss for the Cavalry.

The Lone Star Cavalry put their special teams to work on Saturday night and earned a hard-fought 3-1 win over the Ice Dogs.

After Fairbanks got on the board first, Lone Star came back with three unanswered goals. Eric Reinhardt scored on the power play at 15:20 of the first from Zack Tesar and Andrew Johnson to tie the score at one.

Jared Brown potted the game-winner at 13:22 of the second period with his short-handed goal at 13:22 of the second period and then Bryan Plaszcz put the game out of reach when he scored on the power play at 16:05 of the second from Kirk Golden and Cody Chupp to make the score 3-1.

Ryan Hatch was solid in goal for the Cavalry and earned the win, while Brent Solei was tagged with the loss for Fairbanks.

Next action for the Cavalry is tomorrow night when they travel to Wichita Falls for a Texas Cup game at the Kay Yeager Coliseum. Game time is 7:05 PM.
