Cavalry Comes Back For Win

Despite being outplayed for much of the game, the Lone Star Cavalry dug down deep in the third period to steal a victory against the Springfield Spirit Saturday night before a crowd of 1,149 at Blue Line Ice Complex.

Tim Hartung led the way for the Cavalry and registered assists on all four Cavalry goals.

Kirk Golden opened the scoring for the Cavalry when he connected on a goal at the 5:32 mark of the first period from Tim Hartung and Cody Chupp.

Springfield would rattle off three unanswered goals in each of the periods to give them a 3-1 lead in the game.

Kirk Golden pulled the Cavalry to within one when he scored his second goal of the game at 17:47 of the third period from Tim Hartung.

Jared Brown tied the score at three with his goal at 19:13, sending the game into overtime. Tim Hartung and Nick Miller picked up assists on the Brown goal.

With a shootout looming, Cody Chupp got the game-winner at 4:15 of the overtime period from Tim Hartung and Jared Brown.

Ryan Hatch got the win in goal for the Cavalry, while Kyle Diehl-Sutton took the loss for the Spirit.

Next home action for the Cavalry is Saturday, February 7 (7:30 PM) when the Wichita Falls Rustlers visit Blue Line Ice Complex.
