Cats rally to bear Cape Fear
Huntsville, AL Â– The Channel Cats took a 3-1 lead into the third before and then fell behind 4-3 to Cape Fear with 6:28 left in the game. James Patterson scored back-to-back goals at the 16:35 and 17:36 marks to give the Cats the 5-4 win Sunday afternoon.
Joel Bresciani and Dan Buccella got the Cats on the board in the first period with goals. Bresciani scored on a power play 5:28 into the game on an assist from Claude Amstutz and Jason deGuehery. Buccella scored four minutes later on and assist from Patterson.
Marc Milburn put Cape Fear on the board one minute later with an assist from Chris Migliore.
Joe Urbanik put the Cats up 3-1 with 13:47 left in the second period with an assist from Dan Kletke.
Cape Fear scored three straight goals to open up the third period. Mike Maurice scored an unassisted shorthand goal 2:33 into the third. Maurice added another goal with 7:28 left to tie the game at 3-3. Mike Bournazakis and Dave Leger had the assist.
Marc Milburn put Cape Fear up 4-3 one minute later with an assist from Matt Kohansky.
Scott Graham got the win in goal for the Cats. He stopped 21 shots. Glenn Ridler took the loss. He stopped 34. The Cats were 1-4 on the power play while holding Cape Fear to 0-5.
The win secures the SEHL regular season championship for the Channel Cats. They will automatically be in the championship series and will host games one and two.
Huntsville travels to Winston-Salem on Thursday night and returns home on Friday to host Cape Fear again. They will host Winston-Salem on Saturday night. Start times for both home games in 7:05.
