Cats Drop Heartbreaker in Shootout

Huntsville, AL – The Huntsville Cats dropped a heartbreaker Saturday night 2-1 in a shootout to Winston-Salem. Winston-Salem moves into a tie with the Cats atop the SEHL standings with 10 points.

The two teams were 2-5 in the first five shots before Derek Kern connected on the seventh shot and Josh Mandel missed giving Winston Salem the win.

Jason Greenway got the Cats on the board at the 14:45 mark in the second period with a goal. Jessi Otis and Jason deGuehery got the assists.

Matt Carmichael almost recorded his second shutout of the season before Frantisek Bakrlik scored at the 16:42 mark in the third period. Marcus Willy and Derek Kern got the assists.

Carmichael stopped 40 shots in the game while Winston-Salem goalie, Terry Craven, stopped 35.

Dave Vychodil and Greg Snitowsky both converted shootouts for Winston-Salem, while Allan Carr and Jessi Otis converted for Huntsville.

The Channel Cats will host the Cape Fear Fire Antz next Thursday and the Knoxville Ice Bears on Saturday. Start time for both games is 7:05.
