Indiana Fever News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Five-time WNBA All-Star and U.S. Olympic gold medalist Tamika Catchings underwent MRI tests Thursday morning following an injury to her right heel in Wednesday's 81-77 loss to the Atlanta Dream. Test results were negative, indicating only a bruise, with no further damage or injury to the Achilles' tendon that was surgically repaired on Sept. 6, 2007.
Cleared to play again as pain permits, Catchings is listed as questionable for Friday's game vs. Seattle. She did not practice with the team on Thursday.
Catchings was kicked in the right heel with 6:46 remaining in yesterday's game, and did not return to the court after the injury. She was evaluated Thursday for a possible strain to the right Achilles' tendon. She received test results early Thursday evening while meeting with Dr. Dan Lehman, the same doctor that performed her surgery in September.
After nine months of rehabilitation, Catchings returned to the Fever lineup on June 15, 2008. She has appeared in 12 games this season, offering her best performance during Wednesday's loss, leading Indiana with 18 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, four steals and a blocked shot.
She was named to the U.S. Olympic Women's Basketball Team on July 10, and looks forward to competing in the upcoming Olympics in Beijing, China.
The Fever, 10-10, hosts the Seattle Storm during Inspiring Women Night, Friday, July 18 (7:00 p.m.). Former Fever coach and U.S. Olympic Women's Basketball Head Coach Anne Donovan is the Fever's honored guest on Friday. Led by WNBA All-Stars Catchings, Katie Douglas and Tammy Sutton-Brown, the Fever bids for its first WNBA Finals appearance after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in two of the past three seasons. Tickets are available at FeverBasketball.com.
