Catcher Returns

July 27, 2012 - North American League (NAmL)
Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release

ABILENE, TX - After a July 19 collision at home plate forced him to the inactive list with a strained AC joint (shoulder), catcher Zach Welch has been activated for Friday night's game at Walt Driggers' Field. To make room on the roster, Abilene released backup catcher Zach Crosswhite.

Welch became the team's everyday catcher after Jessie Mier suffered a broken hand on June 5. In six weeks as the team's starting backstop, Welch batted .311. In his absence, the Dogs acquired switch-hitting catcher Davis Page from the San Angelo Colts.

Crosswhite, a rookie from Temple, Texas, signed with Abilene on June 14 and had been serving as the team's backup catcher. Crosswhite registered seven at-bats in a Prairie Dogs' uniform and collected his first two professional base hits.

The Dogs continue their eight-game series with San Angelo with a 7:05 first pitch at Walt Driggers' Field. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a complimentary can koozie courtesy of Halftime Sports and KXVA FOX Abilene. If you cannot make it to the game, hear it live on 106.9 KLGD or on the internet at abileneprairiedogs.com beginning with the First Financial Pregame Show a 6:55.
